Professional Development season
At Hearing Auckland, Spring doesn’t just mean a change in the weather, it also means it’s professional development season for our staff members. As an independent ear health clinic, it’s important to our professional staff to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in their field. Check out these snapshots of what they’ve been up to.
NZ Audiological Society Conference
Our small independent clinic has two registered audiologists: Mani Kaur and Peter Stubbing. The team attended the New Zealand Audiological Society conference earlier this year in Poneke (Wellington). This year’s theme was “Inspire, Innovate, Include”. Professional development like annual conferences ensures our audiologists keep up with the latest in hearing research and technology developments. When you make an appointment with our audiologists, you know you’re seeing a fully qualified and registered member of the NZ Audiological Society.
Ear Nurse Specialist Group Conference
Professional Development season also extends to our ear nurse team. Vivien Li and Justine Arasaratnam are both registered nurses and members of the Ear Nurse Specialist Group. Vivien and Justine are fully qualified to use micro-suction to clean your ears, which is the safest way to clean the ear canal. This year the ENSG annual conference was held in Christchurch and was a great chance for ear nurses across New Zealand to upskill and collaborate.
Coalition for Global Hearing Health
Just last week, a few members of our team were lucky enough to attend the Coalition for Global Hearing Health conference in Boston, USA. Our manager Peter Stubbing attended, along with guest team member Professor Suzanne Purdy. We’re incredibly excited to be working with celebrated audiologist Professor Purdy from the University of Auckland. Professor Purdy is assisting in our current research into remote community hearing support, in collaboration with Te Hiku Hauora health clinic in Kaitaia. The theme of the CGHH conference was “Advanced Hearing Health in Low Resourced Countries” which ties in with our research and community services. What an exciting opportunity for professional development in an international setting.
Applied Knowledge
Here at Hearing Auckland we have a small, dedicated team who maintain their professional qualifications year round. It is our mission to help all kiwis to hear better and that starts with seeing one of our registered ear nurses or audiologists. The professional development season of conferences may only happen once a year, but our team are always up-to-date with their qualifications and registrations. When you come to see our team, you get reliable, professional care.
